Engagement Party Extravaganza: Unveiling the Ultimate Guide to Celebrate Love!

So, you've got the scoop on the latest juicy news – your friends just got engaged! Cue the happy dance and pop the champagne because it's time to celebrate love, laughter, and happily ever after. That's right, folks – it's time to throw an engagement party that will be etched in everyone's hearts forever. Don't worry; we've got your back with a truckload of fun, unique, and engaging ideas that will make your party the talk of the town!

What's an Engagement Party, Anyway?

If you're new to the world of weddings and wedding-related shenanigans, let's start with the basics – what exactly is an engagement party? Think of it as a pre-celebration before the big day. It's a fantastic opportunity for the lovebirds to share the joy of their engagement with family and friends, to introduce both sides of the family (if they haven't already met), and to bask in the warm glow of well-wishes and congratulations.

Typically, engagement parties are more laid-back and intimate than the actual wedding. They can range from casual backyard barbecues to elegant cocktail soirées. It's the couple's chance to showcase their style and personality while building excitement for the grand event ahead.

Why Throw an Engagement Party?

Now, some might wonder, "Why throw an engagement party when there's already a wedding to plan?" Well, folks, there's no shortage of good reasons!

  • Love Deserves a Party: Love is a magical thing, and when two hearts decide to intertwine forever, it calls for a celebration – no questions asked!

  • Strengthening Bonds: An engagement party is a perfect opportunity to foster connections and camaraderie between both sides of the family. Let the mingling begin!

  • Practice Makes Perfect: Consider the engagement party as a "wedding rehearsal." It allows the couple to get comfortable being in the spotlight and working with vendors and event planners. Plus, it's a great way to test out the waters for the big day!

  • Sharing the Joy: Nothing warms the heart like seeing the couple's faces light up as they share their love story and receive heartfelt blessings from their loved ones.

  • Less Stress, More Fun: Unlike the wedding day, which can be filled with a whirlwind of activities, the engagement party offers a more relaxed atmosphere. It's the ideal time to enjoy the company of friends and family without the pressure of saying vows.

Are Engagement Gifts Required?

Now, let's address the elephant in the room – gifts! While gifts are not obligatory, some guests might still arrive with presents in tow. So, should you expect gifts at an engagement party?

The answer is both yes and no. Traditionally, guests weren't expected to bring gifts to the engagement party. After all, the main event is the wedding itself. However, times have changed, and it's becoming more common for guests to bring a little something to commemorate the occasion.

If you're the host, it's a good idea to let your guests know that their presence is more than enough of a gift. But, if they still wish to bring something, small tokens like personalized photo frames, a bottle of bubbly, or even heartfelt cards are always appreciated.

Throwing an Engagement Party like a Pro!

Now that we've covered the "what" and "why" let's dive into the juiciest part – the "how"! Grab your notepad, and let's get planning:

1. Set the Date and Venue

Before you go all-out with the party preparations, lock down a date that works for the couple and their VIP guests. Whether it's a weekend bash or a weeknight soirée, make sure the date doesn't clash with any major events.

As for the venue, it could be anywhere! From the couple's favorite restaurant to a beautiful garden, the options are endless. And don't forget, you can always reach out to a skilled event planner to help you find the perfect spot!

2. Choose a Theme

Themes are the life of any party! Encourage everyone to dress to impress according to the theme. It could be a retro '70s disco, a beach luau, or even a "Pirates of the Caribbean" adventure! Let your imagination run wild!

3. Delectable Delights

What's a party without scrumptious food and drinks? Offer a delightful mix of appetizers, finger foods, and delectable desserts. Don't forget to include vegetarian and vegan options for guests with dietary preferences. As for drinks, have a signature cocktail to mark the occasion, as well as non-alcoholic options for those who prefer them.

4. Entertainment Galore

Keep the party vibes soaring with lively entertainment! Hire a DJ or a live band to get everyone on their feet. You can also set up fun lawn games like cornhole, giant Jenga, or a photo booth to capture unforgettable moments.

5. Toast to Love

Engagement parties call for heartwarming toasts! Invite close friends and family members to raise their glasses and share their favorite memories of the couple. It's a beautiful way to showcase the love and support surrounding the engaged duo.

6. Captivating Decorations

Dress up the venue with eye-catching decorations that match the chosen theme. From fairy lights and balloons to flower arrangements and quirky signs, let the ambiance reflect the couple's unique love story.

7. Personal Touches

Don't forget the personal touches! Create a photo collage of the couple's journey together, from their first meeting to the proposal. This sentimental touch will leave everyone in awe.

8. Party Favors

Thank your guests for celebrating with the couple by sending them home with delightful party favors. It could be anything from custom-made keychains to mini succulents – the choice is yours!

Perspective from an Event Planner

The key to a successful and memorable celebration lies in the details. I always start by getting to know the couple's personalities, interests, and preferences. Once we have a clear vision, it's time to brainstorm unique ideas that reflect their love story.

Remember, an engagement party is all about love, laughter, and making memories. As long as you focus on these elements and put your heart into the planning, you're bound to throw a party that will be etched in the couple's hearts forever!

So, there you have it, folks – the ultimate guide to throwing an engagement party that will leave everyone swooning with delight. Remember, it's not just a party; it's a celebration of love, and that's something truly special. Happy planning and may love always be in the air! Cheers to the happy couple! 🥂

The Ultimate Last-Minute Wedding Checklist: Avoid Disasters with a Wedding Day Emergency Kit

The wedding day is here, and excitement fills the air! But amidst all the joy and celebration, it's essential to be prepared for any unforeseen emergencies that may arise. To ensure a smooth and stress-free day, every bride and groom should have a wedding day emergency kit on hand. In this comprehensive last-minute wedding checklist, we'll cover all the essential details you shouldn't miss, along with valuable insights from an experienced event planner.

Wedding Details Not to Miss

Dress to Impress

The wedding attire is undoubtedly one of the most important elements of the big day. Make sure all the outfits are ready, pressed, and in perfect condition. Have someone in charge of keeping the attire wrinkle-free and assisting with any last-minute adjustments. Don't forget to pack a sewing kit for any potential wardrobe malfunctions!

Picture-Perfect Memories

Capture every moment with stunning photos and videos that will be cherished forever. Double-check that your photographer and videographer have all the necessary details and a list of must-have shots. Inform them of any special requests or surprises you've planned.

Beautiful Blooms

Flowers add a touch of elegance and romance to any wedding. Confirm with your florist that the arrangements are on schedule and discuss the delivery plan. Prepare a list of specific flowers and arrangements you desire, ensuring they align with your overall theme and color scheme.

A Sweet Treat

The wedding cake is a centerpiece that deserves extra attention. Consult with your baker to finalize the design, flavors, and any dietary restrictions. Ensure the cake is delivered on time, and assign someone responsible for overseeing its placement and serving.

Musical Magic

Create an unforgettable atmosphere with the perfect soundtrack. Confirm the details with your DJ or band, including the playlist, special dance songs, and the schedule for the evening. Make sure they have all the necessary equipment and access to power sources.

Seating and Décor

The seating plan can be a complex puzzle, but it's worth the effort to ensure a harmonious reception. Double-check that the seating arrangements are finalized and clearly communicated to the venue staff. Confirm that the table settings, centerpieces, and other decorations are in place and match your vision.

The Wedding Day Emergency Kit: A Lifesaver

No matter how much you plan, sometimes unexpected emergencies can occur on your wedding day. That's where a well-prepared wedding day emergency kit comes in handy. Pack these essential items to handle any mishap that may come your way:

  • First Aid Supplies: Include band-aids, antiseptic ointment, pain relievers, and any necessary prescription medications.

  • Sewing Kit: A mini sewing kit with needles, thread, safety pins, and scissors will be a lifesaver if any wardrobe malfunctions happen.

  • Stain Remover: Accidents happen, especially with food and drinks. Carry a stain remover pen or wipes to tackle any spills promptly.

  • Breath Mints and Mouthwash: Keep your breath fresh all day long, especially for those close-up photos and intimate moments.

  • Tissues: Emotions can run high, so be prepared with a pack of tissues for happy tears and touching moments.

  • Snacks and Water: Stay energized throughout the day by packing some light snacks and water bottles. It's crucial to keep everyone hydrated and fueled.

  • Beauty Essentials: Don't let the heat or tears ruin your makeup. Carry blotting paper, translucent powder, lip balm, and makeup essentials for quick touch-ups.

  • Extra Cash: You never know when you might need some extra cash for unexpected expenses or tips.

  • Phone Chargers: Keep your devices charged and ready to capture every moment. Pack extra chargers or portable power banks to ensure you never miss a photo opportunity.

  • Wedding Vows and Speeches: Print extra copies of your vows and speeches, just in case someone forgets theirs.

Remember, the wedding day emergency kit is not just for the bride and groom. Assign a responsible person, like a bridesmaid or groomsman, to keep it close by and easily accessible throughout the day.

In Summary

With the ultimate last-minute wedding checklist and a wedding day emergency kit at your disposal, you'll be well-prepared to tackle any unexpected surprises. Remember to focus on the love and happiness that surround you, and let the professionals handle the rest. Your wedding day is a once-in-a-lifetime event, so embrace the journey and create unforgettable memories that will be cherished for years to come.

Money & Matrimony: Wedding Splurges That Are Worth It

Welcome back to another edition of Money & Matrimony! Once a month on the OIMDE blog, I take a look at the financial side of weddings and events, and dig deep to untangle the seemingly mind-numbing money hoops when planning a wedding.

The past few months we’ve been deep diving into all things budget. What does a wedding budget look like, what to keep in mind when setting a wedding budget, and most importantly, how to stick to your wedding budget

Now that that’s out of the way, I want to consider the fun side of things. After all, weddings are meant to be fun!

It’s why I got into the wedding business in the first place. Working weddings for me means I get to work with a couple on what’s going to be one of the happiest moments of their lives. Everything comes to the wedding to take part in the joy and celebrate together. It’s good times all around!

And with that, I cannot stress enough the importance of a splurge. Yes, I’ve been giving you tips on tips on advice on how to keep your wallet as tight as possible, and this is important! But in today’s society, dipping into that splurge can bring you a bout of serotonin that will carry on (in this instance) through the ceremony to everyone who’s attending.

Wedding Splurges That Are Worth It

Planning a wedding and wondering where to splurge and where to save? Well, let me be your guide on this exhilarating journey. I may not have a finance degree or a fancy title, but hey, I do have a few credit cards up my sleeve. So, let's dive in and explore some wedding splurges that can make your big day truly unforgettable!

The Venue: Go Big or Go Home?

Now, this one might seem like a no-brainer, but hear me out. Your wedding venue will likely be one of the biggest expenses, and it's tempting to cut corners. Trust me, I get it! But before you settle for just any place, consider your options.

Sure, unconventional venues can be a tad pricier, but they often come with added perks and convenience. Don't be afraid to explore unique locations that can make your wedding experience extraordinary. After all, a little extra investment upfront could lead to long-term bliss. (Psst! Check out my blog post on the financial pros and cons of a DIY wedding for more juicy details.)

The Tux: Suit Up in Style!

Grooms, listen up! I know the temptation to rent a tuxedo is real. I mean, when else are you going to wear it, right? But hold on, my friend. Nowadays, you have a world of options beyond that prom-like rental. Why not consider buying a custom-made tuxedo instead?

Investing in a tailor-made ensemble allows you to add your personal touch and get more bang for your buck. You'll have separate pieces that can be mixed and matched for future occasions. Trust me, it's an investment that'll keep on giving!

The Photographer/Videographer: Capture the Magic!

Listen, folks, a picture is worth a thousand words, especially when it comes to your wedding day. With all the money you're pouring into this celebration, you'll want stunning, high-quality photos to cherish forever. And hey, if you have a specific ambiance or aesthetic in mind, you'll want a top-notch professional who can bring your vision to life.

Remember, your wedding photos are a timeless memento of your special day. So, don't skimp on hiring a skilled photographer. Oh, and in this digital age, a talented videographer is also worth considering. After all, who doesn't want a cinematic highlight reel of their love story?

Honeymoon: The Ultimate Escape!

Now, let's talk about the honeymoon. Although it's not technically part of the wedding ceremony, it's an integral part of your wedding experience. It's your chance to embark on a romantic adventure with your partner.

These days, more couples are opting for honeymoon funds instead of traditional gifts. So, don't be shy! Add that dream trip to your registry and let your guests know you're seeking an unforgettable experience. And hey, if you find some extra room in your budget, why not splurge a bit more on your honeymoon? Trust me, a little upgrade can make a world of difference.

Your Priorities: Make It Your Own!

At the end of the day, it's your special day! It's a time to gather your loved ones and celebrate one of the most significant moments of your life. So, take a moment to reflect on what truly matters to you. Is it the venue, the photographer, or something entirely different?

When deciding where to allocate your precious wedding budget, consider your priorities. Because, my friends, those are the things you'll remember most vividly. Trust your instincts and make choices that resonate with your heart. I have no doubt it'll be absolutely splendid!

So, there you have it, lovebirds! Wedding splurges that are truly worth it. Remember, it's about creating magical memories and starting your happily-ever-after in style. Go ahead, plan your dream day, and let love guide your way! 💍❤️

Hosting the Ultimate Fourth of July Backyard Party: Ideas and Games

Are you ready to celebrate America's independence in style? The Fourth of July is the perfect occasion to gather friends and family for a fantastic backyard party. With some creative ideas and exciting games, you can host an unforgettable event that will be the talk of the town. In this article, we'll explore some fantastic Fourth of July backyard party ideas and share tips on how to throw the ultimate backyard party. Let's get started!

Setting the Stage for a Patriotic Bash

Before diving into the fun and games, let's start by setting the stage for your Fourth of July backyard party. Consider these ideas to infuse your event with patriotic flair:

Decorations: Red, White, and Blue Galore!

Deck out your backyard with patriotic decorations to create a festive atmosphere. Hang colorful bunting and string lights across your outdoor space. Set up tables with red and white checkered tablecloths, and add centerpieces featuring American flags and flowers in shades of red, white, and blue.

DIY Drink Stations

Quench your guests' thirst with a DIY drink station. Fill galvanized buckets with ice and a variety of beverages, including refreshing lemonade, iced tea, and, of course, some cool beverages for the adults. Label each drink with fun Fourth of July-themed signs for an extra touch of creativity.

Grilling Galore

What's a Fourth of July party without a barbecue? Fire up the grill and treat your guests to classic American fare like juicy hamburgers, hot dogs, and grilled corn on the cob. Add some tasty side dishes like potato salad, coleslaw, and watermelon slices to complete the meal.

Tasty Treats

Don't forget to satisfy everyone's sweet tooth! Serve up patriotic desserts like strawberry shortcake, blueberry pie, or star-shaped sugar cookies decorated with red, white, and blue icing. You can also set up a s'mores station where guests can roast marshmallows and create their own gooey treats.

Fun and Games for All Ages

Now that the stage is set, it's time to entertain your guests with exciting Fourth of July party games. These activities will keep everyone engaged and ensure a day filled with laughter and friendly competition.

Patriotic Scavenger Hunt

Create a Fourth of July-themed scavenger hunt to get everyone involved. Hide small American flags or other patriotic items around your backyard, and give each participant a list of clues to find them. The first person or team to locate all the items wins a prize. It's a great way to engage both kids and adults in a fun-filled adventure.

Water Balloon Toss

Beat the summer heat with a water balloon toss. Divide your guests into pairs and have them stand facing each other at increasing distances. Start by tossing a water balloon back and forth, and with each successful catch, take a step backward. The pair that can throw and catch the balloon from the greatest distance without it bursting wins the game.

Cornhole Tournament

Cornhole is a classic backyard game that is always a hit at parties. Set up cornhole boards in your backyard and organize a tournament. Divide your guests into teams and let the friendly competition begin. Provide small prizes for the winners and create a festive leaderboard to track everyone's progress throughout the day.

Fireworks Showdown

End your Fourth of July backyard party with a bang! Set up a designated area for a fireworks display and ensure you follow all safety precautions. Invite your guests to bring their own fireworks (where legal) and have a friendly competition to see who can create the most dazzling display. Remember, safety first, so be sure to have a designated adult supervising the fireworks area.

Insights from an Event Planner

As an event planner, I've organized countless backyard parties, and I know what it takes to make them truly spectacular. Here are a few additional tips to make your Fourth of July backyard party shine:

  • Plan for seating: Ensure you have enough seating options for your guests. Rent or borrow additional chairs and set up cozy outdoor seating areas with blankets and cushions.

  • Music and ambiance: Create a playlist with a mix of patriotic tunes and summer hits to keep the energy high throughout the day. Consider adding some string lights or lanterns to enhance the ambiance as the sun sets.

  • Sunscreen and bug spray: Remember to provide sunscreen and bug spray for your guests. Keep a basket of these essentials near the entrance, so everyone can protect themselves from the sun and pesky mosquitoes.

  • Keep it kid-friendly: If you're expecting little ones, set up a designated kids' area with age-appropriate games, toys, and activities to keep them entertained throughout the day.

By incorporating these ideas and games into your Fourth of July backyard party, you're sure to create an unforgettable event that celebrates America's independence with style and flair.

So, fire up the grill, hang up the decorations, and get ready to have a blast at the ultimate Fourth of July backyard party. Happy Independence Day!

Money & Matrimony: How To Stick To A Wedding Budget

I’m back with another edition of the Money & Matrimony series, y’all!

Okay, so last month I talked all about the basics of setting your wedding budget. To me, a budget is basically a financial to-do list. When setting the budget lines I go just a bit further and think of what I need to do to make sure I fall within that budget.

So with that said, let’s talk about not just setting a wedding budget, but how to stick to it!

I’m back with another edition of the Money & Matrimony series, y’all!

To me, a budget is basically a financial to-do list (and I’m a double virgo so I loovvee a to-do list). When setting the budget lines I go just a bit further and think of what I need to do to make sure I fall within that budget.

So with that said, let’s talk about not just setting a wedding budget, but how to stick to it!

How To Stick To A Wedding Budget

Know Your Timeline…Your Entire Timeline

Time is money, folks! Yes, we know it's a cliché, but it holds true when it comes to wedding planning. So, let's zoom out for a moment and look at the big picture. Besides the wedding frenzy, what's happening in your day-to-day life? Work, family, hobbies, Netflix binging—you name it!

Consider this throughout the entire engagement-to-wedding period. Couples usually take around 12-18 months to tie the knot, but you have the power to adjust that timeline to your liking. More time means less pressure, while a shorter timeline can add some adrenaline to the mix.

Take a step back and evaluate how much time you truly have to plan your dream wedding. Do you need a helping hand from a wedding planner or a trusted friend? Can you opt for all-inclusive packages that save you time and money? Explore all your options and make the most of your precious time!

Keep an Open Mind: Kill Those Budget-Busting Darlings!

Ever heard of "don't be afraid to kill your darlings"? Well, it's time to apply this wisdom to your wedding planning. Your budget may have its limits, but that doesn't mean you can't have a magical day filled with love and laughter.

Prepare to make some compromises, dear budget-savvy lovebirds. Be open-minded when making choices between your dream dress and that mouthwatering catering, or the cake that makes your heart skip a beat and a bouquet that screams romance. Balancing your budget may require some tough decisions, but fear not! Solutions are on the horizon, and your perfect wedding is within reach.

Add a Line for Wiggle Room: Embrace the Unexpected!

No one likes going over budget, but let's face it—it can happen. Instead of panicking, let's plan ahead. Prepare yourself for those "uh-oh" moments by adding a little line of defense in your budget—a safety net, if you will.

How much should you allocate for this contingency plan? Well, that's up to you, lovebirds! The Knot suggests setting aside 5% of your budget for unexpected costs. But depending on where your finances stand, you might want to wiggle that line a bit. Trust us; when those "oh, sh!t" moments come knocking, that extra cushion will save the day!

With these wedding budget tips in your arsenal, you're ready to rock your planning journey like a true pro. So, set your own budget, embrace compromises with an open mind, and leave some room for the unexpected. Your dream wedding awaits, and now you have the power to make it happen—without breaking the bank!

Recounting A Wedding: Champagne Under A Strawberry Moon

It’s me! Your Berkshires Wedding Planner!

We’ve finally crossed the threshold of our first wedding for the 2023 season! From start to finish it was so lovely to see this beautiful wedding come to life.

This past weekend, I coordinated a wedding I had planned in Pittsfield, MA, at Herman Melville’s Arrowhead Historic Home. And let me tell you, this was an EVENT, from start to finish! To have a wedding like this kicking off my season as a wedding planner is nothing short of a good sign about what’s to come. So let’s dive in!

Smooth Sailing Until…

A Nice Day For A White Whale-er-Wedding

I started working with this couple a few months into their own wedding planning. They started to secure vendors already, but wanted some help with the finer vendor details, and just to have everything checked off the list and handled so they could just have fun on their special day. A prime example of why a wedding planner couldn’t be more perfect to hire.

What made the planning kismet was I was already in touch with Arrowhead as I had a few couples interested in hosting their wedding on the property. This couple who brought me on was already signed on to work with Arrowhead, and was actually the first ever wedding to be held on the property. This is the same property where Herman Melville wrote Moby Dick! No joke!

The Great Storm of 15 Minutes

The wedding ready to go…before the storm struck!

And so going into the day, we knew that having the ceremony outdoors meant that we needed the wedding to have a rain plan. Easy! But of course, the goal is to avoid that as much as possible.

So on the day of, I arrive on the property with the beautiful tent set up, DJ fixing and installing the lighting he brought in, and the catering setting up the food. There’s a small barn on the property which was going to be a focal point for the highlights of the evening. The dinner and dancing would be in the tent on the lawn, but we wanted ceremony, cake cutting, and cocktail hour to be in the barn. The idea was the barn would remain closed with the ceremony in front of the barn.

Once the ceremony was finished, the idea was we would then swing open the doors for the crowd to see the beautiful scape inside of food and drink where they would enjoy cocktail hour. Weeeelll, the weather had other plans.

Couldn’t be happier to see the sun shining!

Literally 45 min before the wedding began, when everything was set up and ready to go, the rain began. First as a drizzle as the crowd began to walk in. And then the pouring started along with chilly winds. And it was in the 80’s the day before!

So, the crowd ran into the barn for dry space and warmth. And I don’t blame them! We then took out tents to cover the chairs, and even thought, “what if we just move the ceremony into the barn??”

Well…15 minutes before scheduled ceremony time the rain stopped and the sun was shining the brightest it had all day. So I took that as a sign to wipe down all of the chairs dry and open up the barn the most beautiful backdrop for an inevitably outdoor wedding.

After that, the crowd was primed to enjoy the rest of cocktail hour, slide right into dinner and dancing, and finish the night off with a delicious cake.

Final Thoughts

In the end, I couldn’t have asked for a better first wedding of the season. It was a very smooth planning process, with a wedding day that proved that even when you think of everything…that one detail will show itself. And despite that, I was able to work with an incredible team to make the wedding a memory that’ll last a lifetime.

A Strawberry Moon to end such a magical evening.

Small Wedding Details You Won't Want to Forget: The Ultimate Guide

Planning a wedding can be an exciting and joyful experience, but it can also be overwhelming. With so many big decisions to make, it's easy to overlook the small details that can make a big difference on your special day. In this guide, we'll take you through the commonly overlooked wedding details and provide you with a comprehensive checklist of small details to consider when planning a wedding. We'll also reveal the secret weapon every bride should have: the emergency wedding kit. Let's dive in!

Commonly Overlooked Wedding Details

When it comes to planning a wedding, it's the small details that often slip through the cracks. These details may seem insignificant, but they can elevate your wedding from ordinary to extraordinary. Here are a few commonly overlooked wedding details to keep in mind:

1. Guest Comfort

While you're busy envisioning your dream wedding, don't forget about the comfort of your guests. Consider providing amenities like fans for an outdoor summer wedding, blankets for a chilly evening reception, or even a basket of flip-flops for those tired dancing feet.

2. Signage and Directions

Ensure your guests can find their way around by including clear signage and directions. From parking signs to arrows pointing the way to the ceremony and reception areas, thoughtful signage will help everyone navigate your wedding seamlessly.

3. Lighting

Lighting sets the mood and ambiance of your wedding. Don't underestimate the power of well-placed candles, fairy lights, or spotlights to create a romantic atmosphere. Lighting can transform even the simplest venue into a magical space.

4. Wedding Favors

Show appreciation to your guests with unique wedding favors. These small tokens of gratitude can leave a lasting impression. Consider personalized items or something that reflects your personality as a couple.

Small Details to Consider When Planning a Wedding

To ensure your wedding is a memorable and flawless affair, here's a checklist of small details that are often overlooked during the planning process:

1. Weather Contingency Plan

If you're planning an outdoor wedding, always have a backup plan in case of inclement weather. Renting a tent or booking an indoor alternative will save you from stress and unexpected surprises.

2. Sound System

Don't let poor sound quality ruin your vows or speeches. Ensure you have a reliable sound system, microphones, and speakers so that everyone can hear the heartfelt words being spoken.

3. Transportation and Parking

Make sure to arrange transportation for your bridal party and consider the parking situation for your guests. Sharing directions or even arranging shuttles can make transportation to and from the venue a breeze.

4. Meal Preferences and Allergies

Remember to include a dietary preferences and allergies section on your RSVP cards. This will help you accommodate your guests' needs and ensure everyone enjoys the meal.

5. Seating Plan

A well-thought-out seating plan can make a huge difference in the comfort and enjoyment of your guests. Consider the dynamics between guests and create seating arrangements that encourage mingling and conversation.

The Emergency Wedding Kit: Your Secret Weapon

No matter how well you plan, unexpected emergencies can still occur on your wedding day. That's why every bride needs an emergency wedding kit by her side. This handy kit contains essential items that can save the day. Here are some items to include:

1. Safety Pins and Sewing Kit

These little heroes can fix a wardrobe malfunction in an instant. Keep safety pins and a small sewing kit on hand for any last-minute mishaps.

2. Stain Remover and Tide Pen

Spills happen, especially when food and drinks are involved. Having a stain remover and a Tide Pen can help you tackle stains and keep your outfit looking pristine.

3. Band-Aids and Blister Cushions

Comfort is key, especially when you'll be on your feet for hours. Pack band-aids and blister cushions to provide relief for sore feet or unexpected blisters.

4. Snacks and Water

Weddings can be physically and emotionally draining, so don't forget to fuel yourself. Keep some snacks and water on hand to keep your energy levels up throughout the day.

5. Breath Mints and Lip Balm

Fresh breath and soft lips are essential for the countless kisses and photo sessions. Keep breath mints and lip balm in your emergency kit for quick touch-ups.

Remember, prevention is better than a cure. Double-check your emergency wedding kit before the big day and make sure it's fully stocked and easily accessible.

In Conclusion

While planning your wedding, it's easy to get caught up in the big decisions and forget about the small details. But these small details can truly make a difference in the overall experience for both you and your guests. By keeping the commonly overlooked wedding details in mind and having an emergency wedding kit on hand, you'll be well-prepared to handle any unexpected surprises and create a memorable day that reflects your love and attention to detail.

So, take a deep breath, enjoy the planning process, and remember that the small details are what will make your wedding truly special. Happy planning!

Celebrating Pride: Beyond Rainbow Capitalism and Corporate Pride

It's that time of the year again! Pride month is upon us, and as we gear up to celebrate the beautiful diversity of the LGBTQ+ community, let's take a moment to reflect on the impact of rainbow capitalism and corporate pride. Last year, I emphasized the importance of shopping local for all your Pride needs, and this year, I want to delve deeper into this topic.

What is Rainbow Capitalism?

Also known as "pink washing," rainbow capitalism occurs when large corporations and banks prioritize LGBTQ+ representation in their marketing without genuinely supporting the community. It's essentially pandering for profit, without any substantial care or respect for the LGBTQ+ community. The worst part? This trend typically emerges during June, LGBTQ+ pride month, starting in late May and ending abruptly on July 1st.

Has Rainbow Capitalism Improved?

Thankfully, the growing awareness of tokenism has prompted corporations to reconsider their approach. However, the temptation of a cash grab still lingers. Priya Elan from The Guardian highlighted this issue in a statistical analysis, emphasizing how this performative activism can do more harm than good. So, what can we do instead?

Embracing the Individuality of Queer People

Queer people are as diverse and unique as any other group, and that's something to celebrate! Each individual contributes to the richness of our community, and being queer is just one facet of their incredible and unique identities.

Moving Beyond Pandering

Now, let's return to the essence of this article. Has pride month pandering improved in 2022? Over the past few years, we've witnessed a conscious shift towards more compassionate marketing, and the same applies to Pride. Many corporations now ensure that a portion of their proceeds goes to LGBTQ+ organizations, which is a step in the right direction, though it's not the complete solution.

Supporting LGBTQ+ Businesses Year-Round

Here's a better step: supporting LGBTQ+ owned and operated businesses directly, not just during Pride month but throughout the year. To make it easier for you, we've compiled a guide featuring a few such businesses you can support right now. And for an even greater impact, consider keeping it local!

I couldn't be prouder to be a part of Only In My Dreams Events, an LGBTQ+ owned and operated organization. We believe in supporting our community and celebrating our achievements together. We are also affiliated with the Massachusetts LGBT Chamber of Commerce, an advocacy organization that registers and supports LGBTQ+ owned businesses across the state.

Local Pride Festivals: A Celebration of Community

Lastly, if you have the privilege of living in a city or town that hosts a local pride festival, make sure to attend! These festivals are not only joyous celebrations but also provide a platform for queer-owned small businesses that need your support. Let's stand together and uplift these businesses, especially in places where the human decency of queer people is not respected.

As we embark on another Pride month, let's move beyond rainbow capitalism and corporate pride. Let's celebrate our community's vibrant diversity by supporting LGBTQ+ businesses, embracing individuality, and cherishing the spirit of Pride throughout the year. Together, we can create a more inclusive and accepting world.

The Weirdest Weddings Ever: Celebrating Love in the Most Unconventional Ways

Love knows no bounds, and when it comes to weddings, some couples are willing to go the extra mile (or light-years) to celebrate their special day in the most extraordinary and unconventional ways. From saying "I do" in space to tying the knot underwater, the world has seen its fair share of weird and wacky weddings that are sure to leave you amazed, amused, and scratching your head in disbelief. Join us on this journey as we explore some of the strangest weddings ever and dive into the whimsical world of unique wedding decisions.

A Love Story Written in the Stars

Imagine exchanging vows in the infinite expanse of space, with the Earth as your backdrop and weightlessness adding an ethereal touch to your special day. This otherworldly dream became a reality for a select few couples who took part in the trend of space weddings. As reported by the New York Post, adventurous lovebirds are now rushing to be the first to tie the knot beyond our planet's atmosphere. However, this celestial experience comes with a hefty price tag, ranging from hundreds of thousands to millions of dollars.

Taking the Plunge: Underwater Unions

For some couples, a traditional church ceremony simply won't do. Instead, they choose to say their vows underwater, surrounded by the vibrant marine life and the serene beauty of the ocean. Underwater weddings have gained popularity in recent years, with couples donning scuba gear and descending into the depths to exchange rings and promises. Imagine the stunning wedding photos captured against the backdrop of colorful coral reefs or ancient shipwrecks. It's certainly a wedding experience that guests won't forget easily.

Where Love and Fear Collide: Haunted Nuptials

Do you believe in ghosts? Some couples find a peculiar charm in the supernatural and decide to tie the knot in haunted locations. From abandoned mansions to creaky old castles, these eerie venues set the stage for an unforgettable wedding. With the flickering candlelight and chilling atmosphere, these couples embrace the presence of the unknown as they embark on their lifelong journey together. Whether you're a true believer or just looking for a unique twist, a haunted wedding will certainly provide an unforgettable experience for both the couple and their guests.

When Fantasy Meets Reality: Themed Extravaganzas

If you're a fan of fantasy, science fiction, or any particular era in history, a themed wedding might be right up your alley. Couples have transformed their wedding day into a full-blown extravaganza by immersing themselves and their guests in a carefully crafted theme. From medieval banquets and fairytale castles to Star Wars-inspired ceremonies and superhero unions, these weddings offer a whimsical escape from reality. Imagine attending a wedding where guests are dressed as knights, princesses, Jedi, or superheroes – it's a celebration that truly transports you to another world.

Quirky Ceremonies: Thinking Outside the Box

Some couples push the boundaries of tradition and opt for unconventional wedding ceremonies that truly reflect their personalities. These quirky ceremonies can range from the delightfully bizarre to the charmingly eccentric. From tying the knot on a roller coaster to exchanging vows on a bungee jump, these couples embrace the adrenaline rush and turn their wedding day into an adventure-filled experience. While not for the faint of heart, these weddings certainly provide an exhilarating start to married life.

Money & Matrimony: Is Your Big Day’s Big Budget Worth It?

Welcome back to Money & Matrimony! Once a month on the OIMDE blog, I take a look at the financial side of weddings and events, and dig deep to untangle the seemingly mind-numbing money hoops when planning a wedding.

We’ve looked at wedding budgets puh-lenty of times on this blog, but honestly, I really wanna dig deep into the “why”.

Why do you want to have a wedding? Are big weddings worth it? Is it better to have a smaller intimate weekend, than a giant wedding where you invite everyone you know?

Today, I want to examine those really big wedding purchases just a bit more. That way you can get an idea of where your money is going to the most, and then think of they’re worth it.

What are the biggest wedding expenses?

  1. Venue: The venue is often the biggest expense when it comes to weddings. Depending on the location and time of year, prices can vary greatly. A popular wedding venue in a big city can easily cost thousands of dollars for just a few hours. Worth it? The biggest thing to consider is the practicality of size. How many people are you inviting and can you fit them all? Once you’ve got that down, think about what the reasons are for the space you’re looking at. If you’re still good to go, I say go for it!

  2. Food and beverage: Feeding your guests is another significant expense. This includes not only the cost of the food but also the cost of staffing, rentals, and any necessary permits or licenses. Worth it? Yes!! At the very least, it’s good to have food for your guests. As to how you want that presented, buffet or plated for instance, is up to you, and can also alleviate some costs.

  3. Photography and videography: Capturing the memories of your special day is important, but it can also be pricey. Hiring a professional photographer and videographer can easily cost several thousand dollars. Worth it? Absolutely! But again, you can scale back if you need to. Do you absolutely need the beautifully created short film about your day? Maybe not, but it can be a beautiful heirloom to have. Do you want at least a few nice photos to make sure your grandparents have? Definitely.

  4. Floral arrangements: From the bouquet to the centerpieces, flowers are a staple in most weddings. The cost of floral arrangements can add up quickly, especially if you choose exotic or out-of-season flowers. Worth it? This one is a bit in the air. Flowers always add a sense of magic and can really elevate a wedding like no other. There are more cost effective options available, for instance wooden flowers, but in the end I say have at least a few flowers in mind.

  5. Wedding dress and attire: The bride's dress is often a significant expense, but don't forget about the cost of the groom's suit, bridesmaid dresses, and tuxedo rentals. Worth it? This one really is person to person. Many people don’t see themselves wearing the outfit again, so the question is do you think you want to spend that money for what will turn into an heirloom in your closet. Something passed down generation to generation. For many people, that’s already a win there.

  6. Entertainment: Whether it's a live band, a DJ, or a photo booth, entertainment is an important part of many weddings. This can be a significant expense, depending on the type and quality of entertainment you choose. Worth it? Entertainment can turn a good reception into a memorable one. So I always suggest entertainment. And it’s your wedding day, why not make sure it’s extra special? If you can afford it, I say yes.

  7. Wedding planner: Hiring a wedding planner can be a wise investment, but it can also be a significant expense. A good wedding planner can help you save money in other areas, but their fee can still add up. Worth it? A planner can absolutely make sure your wedding is staying afloat. There is certainly a premium cost, but in the end you can do less of the stressing, and all of the enjoying.

Are big weddings worth it?

Now that we know what the biggest wedding expenses are, the question remains: are big weddings worth it? The answer, of course, depends on your personal preferences and priorities.

On one hand, a big wedding can be a once-in-a-lifetime event that you and your guests will remember for years to come. It's a chance to celebrate with loved ones and make memories that will last a lifetime. If you value having a large, extravagant celebration, then a big wedding may be worth the expense.

On the other hand, weddings can be incredibly stressful, and a big wedding can make things even more complicated. The more guests you invite, the more logistics you have to worry about. A big wedding can also put a strain on your budget, which can lead to financial stress down the road.

From the perspective of an event planner, the answer is not black and white. While some couples may feel that a big wedding is worth the expense, others may find that a smaller, more intimate celebration is just as meaningful. As an event planner, it's important to understand your clients' priorities and help them make the best decisions for their individual circumstances.

Breaking Tradition: Non-Traditional Alternatives for Your Wedding

When it comes to weddings, traditional ceremonies and receptions may not be for everyone. If you're someone who wants to break away from the traditional mold and have a wedding that reflects your unique personality and style, then you may be searching for non-traditional wedding ideas. From the venue to the decor, food, and entertainment, there are endless possibilities to make your big day unforgettable. Here are some ideas for an alternative wedding that will make your guests remember your special day for years to come.

Venue

When it comes to choosing a venue for your wedding, think outside of the box. You could have your ceremony and reception at a museum, art gallery, or even an aquarium. Nature lovers may opt for a beach wedding, forest wedding, or even a wedding in a national park. For a more industrial feel, consider an old warehouse or factory. If you're into music, a concert hall or music venue could be perfect for you. The options are endless, and choosing a non-traditional venue can add an extra special touch to your big day.

Attire

Who says you have to wear a white dress and tuxedo? There are plenty of alternative wedding dress options available, including colorful gowns, jumpsuits, and even shorts. Grooms can also mix it up with colored suits, suspenders, and bow ties. The key is to choose something that reflects your personal style and makes you feel comfortable.

Food

Gone are the days of the standard chicken or beef dinner. Alternative wedding ideas include having a food truck or multiple food stations with a variety of options, such as tacos, sushi, or even grilled cheese. If you're a foodie, you could even consider a tasting menu with multiple courses. Don't forget to cater to any dietary restrictions your guests may have.

Decor

When it comes to decor, you can get creative with non-traditional options. For a boho-chic vibe, consider using macrame backdrops, dream catchers, and lots of greenery. Vintage lovers can incorporate antiques and old photographs into their decor. If you're looking for something unique, consider using unconventional items such as balloons, streamers, and confetti. Remember, the key is to have fun and create a wedding atmosphere that reflects your personalities.

Entertainment

Alternative wedding ideas for entertainment include having a live band, DJ, or even a magician. Photo booths, games, and even a DIY cocktail bar can keep guests entertained throughout the night. You could even consider having a surprise performance or flash mob to wow your guests.

Invitations

Invitations are a great way to set the tone for your alternative wedding. Opt for unconventional invitation designs, such as using bold colors, unusual materials, or quirky illustrations. You could even send out digital invitations or create a wedding website that showcases your unique personality and style.

Event Planner Perspective

When it comes to planning a non-traditional wedding, an event planner can be your best friend. Me? I think non-traditional weddings are on the rise because couples want their weddings to be more personalized and meaningful. As a planner (because, dear reader, that’s what I do when I’m not spinning yarn on the blog), my job is to help my clients find unique ways to express their personalities and create a wedding that is truly one-of-a-kind. It's about thinking outside of the box and not being afraid to break away from tradition.

I recommend that couples start by thinking about their hobbies, interests, and what makes them unique as a couple. From there, we can brainstorm non-traditional wedding ideas that reflect their personalities and style. It's important to remember that there are no rules when it comes to weddings, so don't be afraid to get creative!

How To Find An Affordable Wedding Venue

Getting married is one of the biggest days in a couple's life, and finding the perfect wedding venue is an important part of the planning process. However, finding an affordable wedding venue can be a challenge, especially if you are working with a tight budget. Luckily, there are plenty of ways to find cheap wedding venues that won't break the bank.

Consider the Location

When it comes to finding an affordable wedding venue, location is key. Consider looking for venues that are outside of major metropolitan areas, as these tend to be more expensive. Instead, look for venues in rural or suburban areas, which may have lower rental rates. Additionally, consider the time of year you are getting married. If you are getting married during peak wedding season, venues may be more expensive, so consider getting married during the off-season to save money.

Look for Non-Traditional Venues

Traditional wedding venues, such as hotels and country clubs, can be expensive. Consider looking for non-traditional venues, such as community centers, parks, or even private homes. These types of venues often have lower rental rates and can provide a unique and memorable backdrop for your special day. Additionally, some non-traditional venues may offer discounted rates for non-profit organizations or local community groups.

Be Flexible with the Date and Time

If you are on a tight budget, being flexible with the date and time of your wedding can help you find a more affordable venue. Consider getting married on a weekday or during the morning or afternoon, as these times may have lower rental rates than weekends or evening weddings. Additionally, consider getting married during the off-season or shoulder season to save even more money.

Negotiate with the Venue

Don't be afraid to negotiate with the venue to get the best possible price. Many venues are willing to negotiate, especially if you are willing to be flexible with the date and time of your wedding. Additionally, consider asking for discounts or packages if you are booking multiple services, such as catering or photography.

Hire an Event Planner

If you are feeling overwhelmed by the wedding planning process, consider hiring an event planner to help you find an affordable wedding venue. Event planners have a lot of experience working with venues and can often negotiate better prices on your behalf. Additionally, an event planner can help you save money by suggesting alternative vendors or DIY options.

DIY Decorations

Another way to save money on your wedding is by DIY-ing your decorations. Many affordable wedding venues are blank canvases, which means you have the opportunity to create your own unique decor. Consider creating your own centerpieces, bouquets, or even photo backdrops. Not only will this save you money, but it will also add a personal touch to your special day.

To Sum It All Up

Finding an affordable wedding venue is possible, even on a tight budget. By considering the location, looking for non-traditional venues, being flexible with the date and time, negotiating with the venue, hiring an event planner, and DIY-ing your decorations, you can save money without sacrificing the magic of your special day. Remember, a wedding doesn't have to be expensive to be beautiful and memorable.

Wedding Tasting 101: Etiquette And What You Need To Know

As a soon-to-be-wed couple, you are probably excited and overwhelmed with all the details that go into planning your big day.

One crucial step in the wedding planning process is the wedding tasting. This event allows couples to sample various dishes and beverages before selecting their wedding menu.

But what exactly can you expect at a wedding tasting? And what should you know before attending one? Let's dive into the world of wedding tastings and explore some essential wedding tasting etiquette.

What to Expect at a Wedding Tasting

First things first, it's important to note that every wedding tasting is different. Some caterers offer a more formal tasting experience, while others may have a more casual approach.

Typically, a wedding tasting will take place at the venue or the caterer's kitchen. It can be just the couple or include other family members, such as parents or siblings.

At the tasting, you will have the opportunity to sample a variety of dishes and beverages that are offered by the caterer. The menu may include appetizers, main courses, sides, and desserts. Be prepared to eat! The portions are usually smaller than what you would receive on your wedding day, but you will likely leave feeling full.

While sampling the food, it's essential to take notes on your favorites and any dishes that you want to exclude from the menu. This way, you can discuss the options with the caterer and make informed decisions.

Don't be afraid to speak up and ask questions about the ingredients or preparation of the food. The caterer will be happy to explain the dishes to you and address any dietary concerns.

Aside from the food, the tasting is an opportunity to assess the presentation and service. Take note of how the dishes are presented and the quality of the service. The servers should be friendly, efficient, and attentive. After all, service is just as crucial as the food itself.

Wedding Tasting Etiquette

Now that you know what to expect at a wedding tasting, let's talk about some essential wedding tasting etiquette.

RSVP Promptly

When you receive the invitation for the wedding tasting, be sure to RSVP promptly. The caterer needs to know the number of attendees to prepare the right amount of food and set up the space. If you are unable to attend, let the caterer know as soon as possible so they can make necessary adjustments.

Be on Time

Wedding tastings are usually scheduled in advance, and the caterer has set aside time to meet with you. Be respectful of their time and arrive on time. If you are running late, call ahead and let the caterer know.

Dress Appropriately

While wedding tastings may be casual, it's essential to dress appropriately. You don't need to wear formal attire, but make sure you are dressed nicely and comfortably. Avoid wearing clothing with strong scents or heavy makeup, which can interfere with the taste of the food.

Be Polite and Gracious

Remember that the wedding tasting is an opportunity to establish a relationship with the caterer. Be polite, gracious, and respectful. Avoid negative comments or criticisms about the food or service. Instead, provide constructive feedback to help the caterer improve their offerings.

Ask Questions

Don't be afraid to ask questions about the food, service, or presentation. The caterer is there to answer any questions you may have and provide guidance. You want to make sure you have all the information you need to make informed decisions.

Tip the Staff

While it's not required to tip the staff at a wedding tasting, it's a nice gesture to show your appreciation. A small tip can go a long way in establishing a positive relationship with the caterer.

Money & Matrimony: Is A DIY Wedding Actually Cheaper?

Welcome back to Money & Matrimony! The monthly series where I look at the intersection of spouces and spending, and try to demystify the financial nuisances of nuptials. Basically help you make budgeting and spending money on your wedding easier!

The reason I started this series is because I wanted to create a space that looks at the financial facts of getting married without any smoke and mirrors. Which very naturally led me to this week’s topic.

Is A DIY Wedding Actually Cheaper?

Short answer: it depends!

Long(er) answer: keep reading.

As weddings started to kick back up again in our new normal, so often I would find myself speaking to potential clients who had a similar situation.

These were couples who had half of their vendors and pans handled for the wedding, but were weighing out the rest of their budget. Will it be worth it to move forward with hiring vendors etc for the entirety of the wedding, or will handling a certain amount ourselves help us with our budget.

Is it worth it to start with an average number? Not really! A recent survey from Zola looked at 3,000 couples and asked them about their budgets.

The largest percentage of similar budgets was about 28% of couples saying their budgets ranged from $10,000 to $20,000. But even with that said, budgets from the entire survey ranged from $5,000 to $100,000…or more!

Making A Wedding Memorable

In accordance with the often said notion that millennials love experiences over material goods, the Zola survey goes on to say that more couples in 2022 are willing to splurge a bit for a particular moments of their wedding if that leads to a more memorable experience for them and their guests.

So what can be done? Is a DIY wedding actually cheaper? Maybe if you DIY your table settings and your programs, that saves money to where you can splurge for the open bar. But, again, this is just balancing out for budget and might not necessarily save you money.

Seriously, How Can A DIY Wedding Save You Money??

Okay so (like any budget) it all depends, but here’s what you can consider!

The Friends/Family/Wedding Party Card

I come from a theatre background, including what I studied in school. This, of course, means that my friends are almost all theatremakers, other types of artists, etc. And what’s our common denominator but very small bank accounts!

When someone in the friend group got married, she had a very strong vision of what she wanted, but not a big budget to make it all happen.

As such, she went ahead and reached out to her close knit friends (and everyone in the wedding party) to see what strengths we had and how we could lend our services. With my calligraphy skills I created all the signage and place cards for the wedding.

Talk about DIY! Her budget was able to stay very small thanks to the generosity of her friends.

This is not an uncommon approach. Many couples have found ways to utilize the skills and talents of their loved ones to save money on their wedding.

However, it's important to keep in mind that it can oftentimes feel weird asking for favors, and there are ways to exchange payment if needed (bartering goods or services) and in the end your friends are willing to help you make this an evening to remember. Just be mindful of where the line is between favors and free labor.

Look at All-Inclusive Packages

Listen, I’m a Virgo and I LOVE to customize right down to the last detail. And I’m saying that you shouldn’t feel like you can’t do that.

While it's tempting to customize every detail of your wedding, it's important to consider all possibilities for all-inclusive wedding packages. There can be times where the DIY wedding comes down to the minute detail and that can really add up in the end.

Wedding venues will create these packages to make a higher profit, but it’s also there to benefit the wedding party. It so often comes out less than figuring out each individual part of the wedding separately and that adding together.

So, from there, customize! Find an all-inclusive wedding package that works for you, and then see what's left that can be DIY'd by you (or your newly enlisted wedding party who is there to help).

This approach can help save you money without sacrificing your vision for your special day.

Hire A Professional Wedding Planner

For those who may not have a lot of friends with skills that could lend themselves to the wedding or are simply too busy with work or other responsibilities to take on the task of DIY wedding planning, hiring a professional event planner can be a great option.

Event planners have the experience and expertise to help couples navigate the complex process of planning a wedding. They can offer valuable insights on everything from choosing a venue to selecting vendors and managing the logistics of the day.

An event planner can help streamline the planning process, saving couples time and money.

The Origins of the Easter Egg: A Story of Mystery and Tradition

Easter eggs have been a beloved part of the holiday season for centuries. These colorful eggs, often decorated with intricate patterns and symbols, are a symbol of new life and rebirth, making them a perfect symbol for the springtime celebration of Easter. But where did this tradition come from, and how did it evolve over time?

The Ancient History of the Easter Egg

To answer these questions, we need to go back to ancient times. The practice of decorating eggs for springtime celebrations can be traced back to pagan traditions, long before the Christian holiday of Easter even existed. These early cultures saw eggs as a symbol of fertility and new life, much like the new growth that appears in nature during the springtime.

As Christianity began to spread throughout the world, these ancient traditions merged with the new faith, creating a new meaning for the Easter egg. The egg became a symbol of Christ's resurrection, with the hard shell representing the sealed tomb and the new life emerging from it representing the resurrection.

Why Do We Hide Easter Eggs?

But how did the tradition of hiding Easter eggs come about? It's said that in medieval Europe, eggs were often given as gifts during the season of Lent, the period leading up to Easter. Since meat was forbidden during this time, eggs were a valuable source of protein, and many people looked forward to receiving them as a treat.

Why Do We Decorate Easter Eggs?

As Lent came to an end and Easter approached, the eggs that had been saved up were often decorated and given as gifts to children. It's believed that the practice of hiding these eggs came about as a way to make the game of finding them more fun for children.

Over time, the practice of decorating and hiding Easter eggs became more and more elaborate, with intricate designs and patterns taking center stage. In some cultures, such as those in Eastern Europe, the practice of creating exquisitely decorated eggs, known as pysanky, became an art form in its own right.

Easter Eggs Today

Today, Easter eggs remain a beloved tradition for many people around the world. While the practice of hiding them may have originated as a way to make the game of finding them more fun for children, it's now become an important part of many Easter celebrations. From large-scale Easter egg hunts to smaller family gatherings, the tradition of the Easter egg continues to thrive.

How To Include Easter Eggs In Your Event

For event planners, Easter egg hunts and decorating activities can be a great way to add a fun and festive touch to any Easter event. By incorporating this beloved tradition into your event, you'll be sure to create a memorable experience for all your guests.

When planning an Easter egg hunt, it's important to keep in mind the age range of your guests. For younger children, you may want to keep the hunt area smaller and more contained, with easier-to-find eggs. For older children and adults, you can make the hunt more challenging by hiding eggs in harder-to-reach places or creating clues to lead them to the eggs.

Another great way to incorporate Easter eggs into your event is through decorating activities. You can set up stations where guests can decorate their own eggs with markers, stickers, or paint. You can even offer a prize for the most creative or best-decorated egg.

No matter how you choose to incorporate Easter eggs into your event, it's sure to be a hit with your guests. The tradition of the Easter egg is a beloved one, with a rich history and cultural significance that has stood the test of time. By adding your own unique twist to this timeless tradition, you'll create a truly memorable experience for all your guests.

Wedding Welcome Bags: What to Include

I should’ve known that I would become a wedding planner, if anything for being a born and bred Southerner. The hospitality that is ingrained in us from a young age becomes part of your daily life, and it only makes sense to see how that would be implemented into my career.

And for wedding planning, hospitality can be implemented everywhere! But more specifically in your welcome bags.

So without further ado, welcome to our guide on creating the perfect wedding welcome bags for your big day! As you dive into wedding planning, one important aspect to consider is how to welcome your guests upon arrival. A well-thought-out wedding welcome bag is an excellent way to make your guests feel appreciated and at home. In this guide, we’ll discuss essential elements to include in your welcome bag, from unique bags to local goodies and hangover kits.

What To Include In A Wedding Welcome Bag

The Bag Must Be Unique (and Reusable)

Presentation is key when it comes to wedding welcome bags. Consider using a basic canvas tote bag, which is perfect for guests who will be sightseeing, going to the beach or exploring the city. The bag should be unique and reusable, so guests can use it later to tote groceries or gym essentials. If you choose to create custom bags, avoid adding names or monograms. Instead, include a design that represents your wedding location or style. The bag should be able to hold everything guests will need throughout their stay.

Give Them Local Goodies

One of the best ways to welcome your guests is by offering them local treats. Fill their bags with sweet and savory snacks that they can enjoy when they arrive late at night or have a late-night craving after the wedding dance party. Be creative and give out-of-towners a taste of the local flavor with snacks that represent your wedding location. Check with local gift shops for gift packs stocked with locally crafted ingredients.

Drinks Are a Must

Don’t forget to include a drink or two in your welcome bag. Bottles of water are perfect for keeping guests hydrated without sending them to the hotel gift shop. Consider adding a custom label to showcase your wedding colors or monogram. If you want to go the extra mile, a nice bottle of wine, liquor, or beer is an excellent way to impress your guests and help them settle in.

Keep Your Guests Informed

Your welcome bag is a great opportunity to keep your guests informed about your wedding weekend. Include a welcome letter with a link to your wedding website where they can find all the essential information, such as the event timeline, important locations, and phone numbers for a "wedding contact" if they have any questions. Also, include details about dress codes and any other must-know information. For older guests who may not have access to your wedding website, create a little packet. Consider having a calligrapher or graphic designer create a custom map detailing where all of the wedding events are taking place, or an infographic outlining the times and locations of each event of the day or weekend.

Provide Hangover Kits

Your guests shouldn't regret that last glass of champagne! Create a special hangover kit, complete with a bottle of water, Advil, Alka-Seltzer, and Emergen-C, to help them combat any morning-after ailments that might keep them from enjoying the rest of the wedding festivities. Your friends and family will thank you for taking care of them.

You Can Never Be Thankful Enough

Lastly, express your gratitude towards your guests. Including a thoughtful letter in your welcome bag is a great way to welcome them and tell them how happy you are to be sharing your wedding day with them. Consider handwriting each note to give it that extra-special touch that says, "You're so important, I took the time to pen this myself." Don't forget to give a quick rundown of the items you've included in your welcome bag or basket, especially if they have a good backstory.

In Conclusion

A well-curated wedding welcome bag is a great way to show your appreciation to your guests and make them feel right at home. With our guide, you'll be able to create the perfect pre-wedding goody bag that will make your guests feel special and appreciated. Happy wedding planning!
